ABOUT

Hamish Holman is a UK sculptor and Senior Stonemason with extensive industry experience, combining fine art, design, and technical skill in his distinctive approach to stone carving. Raised on a working farm in rural Dartmoor, he developed a deep-rooted connection to landscape that continues to inform his practice.

ARTISTIC VISION

Growing up on a working farm on Dartmoor instilled in Hamish a reverence for materials and permanence. His work frequently explores symmetry, fragility and hidden geometry, often striving to reveal the unseen core of stone through light and form.

Process / Technical Innovation

Most of Hamish’s work begins with a cube, from which he carves interconnecting planes and voids. He positions sculptures to interact with natural light, allowing shifting shadows and perspectives to reveal new dimensions. The stone’s inherent textures, grain and internal structure are integral to his process.

“Looking through stone has always been an aspiration, as the core is rarely seen in a sculpture.”

RECOGNITION

Hamish’s work has been selected for exhibitions across the UK, particularly through regional art programmes such as South West Sculptors and shows in London.
