Karen Browning
Reflective / Optical Sculptures:
Glass / Light / Illumination
ABOUT
Karen Browning is a prizewinning sculptor, working with glass and light to create reflective, optical works and illumination. Her practice explores transparency, shadow and colour, producing pieces that transform their surroundings and invite viewers to notice subtle shifts in surface and light.

ARTISTIC VISION
Karen’s work is rooted in an interest in how light interacts with material surfaces, producing subtle shifts in colour, texture and depth. Her reflective sculptures encourage moments of pause, inviting viewers to notice changes in perception and the world around them.
Process / Technical Innovation
She works primarily with glass, often combining it with mixed media to heighten the effects of reflection and shadow. Through precise craftsmanship and experimentation with form, her installations transform environments into immersive experiences.
“I am fascinated by the optical qualities of glass - the way it captures and bends light, creating shifting moments of reflection and perception.”
RECOGNITION
Karen won best in show at the 2022 British Glass Biennale and her work is in the permanent collection of the V&A museum in London. Her sculptures have been exhibited in both galleries and outdoor settings, earning recognition for their ability to merge craft and concept. Her practice spans commissioned projects, exhibitions, and collaborations with architects and designers.
